The Big Fresno Fair was established in 1884 as a showcase for the agricultural and community life of the valley. It operated continuously from 1884 to 1895, resumed operation from 1910 to 1941, and has run continuously from 1948 to the present day. Managed by the 21st District Agricultural Association, an entity of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the fair remains a self-funded institution dedicated to advancing the agricultural interests and community values of the region.

Each October, the fair draws approximately 600,000 visitors from across the valley and beyond for a twelve-day celebration of livestock competitions, agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, entertainment, and food. The fair hosts competitions for cattle, horses, rabbits, and poultry; displays of crops and preserved foods; educational demonstrations; and competitions for youth in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. Economic studies show the fair contributes more than sixty-eight million dollars annually to Fresno County through direct and indirect spending, making it not just a tradition but an economic anchor for the community.

The people who attend the fair each year—exhibitors, vendors, families at the carnival, farmers showing the animals they raise—all have futures that depend on more than luck and the weather. A farmer showing livestock, a business owner running a food booth, a family with school-age children planning their budgets: each one benefits from knowing that if something happened to the income earner, a term life policy would replace that income for the number of years the family has named. The fair celebrates the value of work; life insurance protects it.
